Step by Step Guide 

Register for orientation
Submit your photo for your ID card
Submit your Unique Student identification (USI)
Set up your student email and Student Portal access
Download Sonder Wellbeing & Safety App

1. Register for orientation

Register for your Orientation session.  If you are unsure of when this is, you can check dates here

2. Submit your photo for your ID card

  • Avoid the queue on orientation day and submit your photo for your student ID card
  • Photos should meet the following criteria (just like your passport photo)
    • Centre your face and upper shoulders, directly facing the camera.
    • Use a clear, sharp, high-resolution image.
    • Ensure even, natural lighting with no shadows or glare.
    • Use a plain white/light background or the Ikon/ALG branded backdrop.
    • Keep eyes fully visible (no hats, non-religious head coverings, or obscuring glasses).
    • Present a natural, friendly smile.

3. Unique Student identification (USI)

  • Every student that studies in Australia is required to have a USI number. This is a 10 digit number issued by the Australian Government.
  • Find your USI or apply for a new one – see how here 
  • Once you have this number, send it to us or have it ready at Orientation

4. Set up your student email and Student Portal access

  • Access your digital Platforms – check out the Getting Started page for a full guide
    • Student Portal: gateway to all other digital systems (via single sign-on) 
      • Update personal details, request support queries  
    • Canvas: Learning Management Platform; contains subject content, resources, interact with your education team and classmates and submit assessments. 
    • Learner App (Wisenet)

5. Download Sonder, your free wellbeing & safety app

  • After enrolment, you will receive an email invitation ‘Welcome to Sonder’
  • Download the Sonder app to your mobile device
  • Login to the Sonder App with your student email (it is single sign-on so access does not require a password or access code)
