Visa Changes: Update 12.10.26

We understand that the recent changes to Student visa requirements has created significant uncertainty and concern for some students, particularly those whose current visa may expire before they are due to
complete their course.

Please be assured that Ikon is actively working on options to support affected students wherever possible.

What we are working on:

  • Summer School: The potential introduction of additional subjects over the summer break to help eligible students progress through their course more quickly.
  • Additional subjects in 2027: Opportunities for eligible students to undertake additional subjects during the standard trimesters next year, where academically appropriate and operationally possible.

Students with visas expiring in October or November 2026

We recognise that students with visas expiring in the coming weeks face more immediate decisions. If your visa expires in October or November 2026 and you are unable to complete your course before that date, a Leave of Absence may be an option, subject to meeting the relevant eligibility requirements and receiving approval.

A travel bursary of up to $1,000 may also be available to eligible students to assist with the cost of travelling offshore to apply for a further Student visa. We encourage eligible students to take advantage of this support by completing the application form. All applications are subject to individual assessment and approval.

Before making decisions about your studies, travel arrangements, or visa, please seek advice from a registered migration agent or Australian legal practitioner.

What you need to do now

If your current visa remains valid and permits you to study, please continue attending classes and meeting your academic requirements unless you have received approval for a change to your enrolment.

If you have already contacted our Student Experience team about your circumstances, there is no need to submit another enquiry at this stage. We appreciate your patience while we work through the available options. We want to ensure that any arrangements we introduce are academically appropriate, achievable and communicated clearly to students.

We understand this is a difficult and uncertain time. Please know that supporting our students remains a priority, and we are committed to exploring every reasonable option available to us.
